Power PathPort

GUI Enhancement And Customization

The Power PathPort product provides automated conversion of legacy SCOBOL screen presentations that are significantly improved over the block mode terminal style that is inherent in a Pathway application.

Power PathPort automatically generates a GUI version of the old Pathway screen and allows customer control over the resulting objects.

However, many customers desire to further enhance the GUI presentation to their applications. A key feature of the Power PathPort approach is its ability to quickly accommodate these enhancements using the industry standard PowerBuilder development tool.

Terminal Emulator Appearance

A sample Pathway application's legacy block mode terminal presentation is shown below:

Default GUI Appearance

Power PathPort automatically converts this legacy presentation to the default GUI presentation shown here:

While this default presentation offers many improvements over the block mode terminal style, it still retains much its original flavor. This is a direct result of the fact that by definition it is impossible to provide a customized GUI from an automated conversion tool.

However, this default GUI presentation acts as an extremely useful starting point for customization.

Customized GUI Appearance

Using the standard PowerBuilder Window Painter, the default presentation may be enhanced to provide whatever customized GUI is desired.

Both protected and unprotected fields may be rearranged. Drop down list boxes may be added to any input field. Input fields may be converted to radio buttons. Function keys may be reimplemented as buttons or even icons.

The entire appearance of the application can not only be entirely revised as desired, but done so easily and rapidly.

For example, the above Pathway screen may be "GUI'ized" to look like this with an investment in time of only about one hour:

Whether the GUI employed is the default or customized , Power PathPort allows users to make specific selections regarding various style objects as shown below:
